Is walking effective?
Walking is one of the simplest forms of exercise, yet sadly, it is the most overlooked and underrated. When people want to lose weight, they look for more ‘serious’ workout programs like running, jogging, yoga and going to the gym to use the equipment. They spend time and money paying for health clubs they will never attend.
Walking is a good cardio exercise. It is one of the easiest exercises to perform. It is free. It fits perfectly into daily routine at low stress. It can be done at any time, by anyone regardless of age and stature and do not require any special gear except comfortable shoes. Maybe it is the simplicity of walking that makes it so underrated. When people think of working out, they want to sweat, push, pull, carry stuff and rave about diets. They don’t think of walking.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and body means balancing your diet with a workout routine. It costs nothing to walk, but it is just as effective on the body as other forms of exercise. Apart from weight loss, walking:
- Improves sleep
- Improves balance
- Reduces risk of heart disease and stroke
- Prevents high blood pressure
- Increases endurance
- Reduces fatigue
- Prevent cardiovascular diseases
- Lowers blood sugar and prevents type 2 diabetes
